Backpack as “personal item”?
Hi, I am traveling United Airlines and their baggage restrictions do not exactly state if a backpack is permitted as a “personal”. I only plan on taking a duffel as my carry-on, since I don’t feel like paying for checked bags. But I was wandering if I can carry a backpack as my “personal” item, usually when I fly I take a large tote, but since I would want to fit more I was wondering if a backpack would be allowed.
Here’s a link to my exact backpack: http://www.jansport.com/js_product_detail.php?cid=10&pid=TRS8 its a simple JanSport, so if you can help me out it be great.
Thanks.
Yes, a backpack can be considered a personal item. But it would have to be able to fit under the seat, as you’re only “allowed” one item for the overhead bin. Often, there is actually room for two items, but they can request that you put one under the seat.
