How high can you install blinds or shades?
I want to install them above the window frame/casing (trim). Has anyone done it before?
I saw it somewhere online, but can’t remember where.
I like woven shades but want to install them closer to the ceiling to give a dramatic effect. Yet, I want privacy for the room as well. Can it be done?
I asked a similar question but got some weird answers that didn’t resolve the question.
What you want to consider is the effect you’re looking for. Shades are not nearly as important visually as curtains, so the impact on the room is less dramatic when you use them per manufacturers specifications. ANYTHING you do with them beyond the norm will have a huge effect on your space though, because they rarely deviate from standard use.
If your shades fit inside the window frame, then any height is fine. If they fit outside the shade, they have more impact on the rooms visual and should be treated like curtains.
Generally speaking, you want them high enough to block the view from the outside looking in at a height of about 6′ at a bare minimum, OR to block the view from neighboring buildings.
