Foreign Voltage Converter for trip in China?
What is the best namebrand for travel voltage converter to be used in China? Will a 50 watt converter enough for a laptop? I know China use 220V for power supply. Thanks.
Most laptop AC adapters — and yours maybe higher or lower, average about 90 watts draw, so I would look for something a twice as high to be safe. On the adapter it will at a minimum give the power input and output detail and sometimes the actual power rating in watts.
To find out the maximum power (expressed in watts) that your laptop AC adapter uses, you multiply the the voltage (here at 110 to 120) by the current expressed in amperes (amps). The number of amps the AC adapter draws may well be expressed as a decimal value or whole number.
For example:
120 Volts x 1.8 Amps = 216 Watts
The deceptive part it that this represents the maximum power possible and isn’t likely to be what it normally uses — but it certainly makes a good place to start in looking for the power rating of any conversion device.

For actual travel converters, I’ve used the Belkin before and had good experiences. I haven’t used the Kensington power converters before, but I have used their other products and found the reliability to be okay. I’m sure there are many brands out today that are fine. The only brand I ever had that actually failed was a Radio Shack power converter many years ago.
Hope that helps!
